Microchip Placement

All pets have the potential to get lost. Many pets described as "indoor only" have been lost forever because they had no means of identification on them. Some pets may get lost with a collar and ID tag, but collars are not (and should not) be placed very tight, and some will slip off. Pets with no form of identification will be treated as stray animals by veterinary clinics and shelters. This often means that the pet will be put up for adoption and hopefully find a new family. But the shelter systems are heavily overloaded and some unfortunate pets will be humanely euthanized if they cannot be placed with a new family. This is a story that we see far too often.

A Microchip is a great way to help prevent your beloved pet from being lost forever.  Microchips are no bigger than a grain of rice.  They are implanted just under the skin at the base of the neck using a needle and syringe much like a vaccination.  When "stray" animals are brought to our clinic and to most shelters the first thing we do is scan for a microchip.  The scanner will read the microchip number, which we then enter into a computer which will match the number to the pet?s family.  A few simple calls later and you will be reunited with your pet.

The Animal Hospital of Chetek and Animal Hospital North strongly recommend implanting a microchip in ALL dogs, cats, and ferrets, regardless of whether or not they have access to the outdoors or not.

The Animal Hospital of Chetek and Animal Hospital North use Home Again microchips.  Please visit online for more information @http://public.homeagain.com/
